Catechism is a question and answer method that provides instruction for young children in the doctrines of the faith.
The Christian Reformed Church officially subscribes to the Heidelberg Catechism. This catechism was written during the height of the Reformation. Its purpose then and now is to provide comfort to the believer by telling the believer what he or she personally must believe in order to live and die happily in the comfort of belonging to Jesus.
We emphasize catechism instruction for grades 6-12 in education classes. It is important that our young people have an informed faith that can answer the uncertainty of our secular world. Catechism is also included in the preaching in topical sermons that cover catechism questions and referenced in biblical preaching.
